Hello Whimsy friends,
OK, so I think my photo program is working. I recently got a new computer for Polkadot Whimsy and the photo program Picasa that Evan installed just was not working. So I got Photoshop elements and I hope it works well. I kinda need my photos. {lol} So onto today's post. PLANNERS!!! I think the industry is funny, I have been a planner, pen hoarder and list maker for YEARS. It started when I was little and hello kitty was all the rage. My mom would take me to the Hello Kitty shop and I would spend hours in there grabbing pens, pencils and notepads and she would spend lots of money. My mom was also a planner, she had more day planners and Le Pens than I could count. The older I get the more I see my mom in me. She bought me my first Franklin Covey fancy leather planner when I got my job with Lil Davis Designs. So fast forward to this past hobby trade show and planner accessories where everywhere, it was how washi tape was everywhere the last few shows.
I have a love/hate relationship with planners. I can never really find the "perfect" one. My Kate Spade zippered one drove me nuts it didn't lay flat. Then my snap Kate Spade never could hold enough. Then I bought the Filofax A5 and it was just to BIG to carry and heavy. I finally bought a personal fluro pink filofax and I have loved it, but there has been some downfalls lately with it. Lillie's athletic schedule is nuts, PDW is busy with whimsy weekends and handmade markets and the family in general is always running around. So as much as I love the personal size I was out growing it and the thought of having to go to the A5 hurt my brain because I just don't like it.
I then came across the Heidi Swapp Memory Planer. This planner is made for just that writing down keepsakes and quotes. Well we all know how my brain works, I am always looking at how to make stuff work in a different way. I LOVED the size of this planner it's a little smaller than a A5 and seemed to have more room. So I bought it and took it all apart.
I made a list of what I want in this planner. Lately I have been working out of a few binders and my filofax for everything. A binder for whimsy weekends and my blog and my filofax for everything else. Now if this was going to work it would all be in one place. YIPPIE! I went and bought the A5 inserts from my FAVORITE planner shop. I love her stuff. I then cut all my paper down to 6x8 to feed it through the printer for all the inserts. If you have never done that before it can be tricky. {Maybe I should do a tutorial on how to do it} I love having the papers trimmed down and then I set the printer to that size and that's it. I also needed a blogging insert that I found just by searching pinterest.
So here is my NEW planner, a Heidi Swapp memory planner made into a everyday planner.
Took it all apart and laminated all the monthly inserts. Now the back of the inserts have a spot to put photos, well I didn't need that so as you look at the rest of the pictures you will see I cut down the month papers and adhered them to the backside then laminated them. I also went to picmonkey and made a photo collage of some favorite photos so far and printed it out on linen cardstock. Printed a quote on the backside and them laminated.
LOVE laminating! I just have a inexpensive brother laminator from walmart, but I did just order a better one to try to do the gold foiling.
Because I was keeping the monthly tabs I wanted my planner to coordinate, So I picked a bunch of washi tapes that matched and taped the sides of the monthly inserts where the holes will be punched. Now I am NOT going to lie doing this process with a hole punch was a little bit of work. I recommend ordering one of these, the heidi swap binder punch. I could not find one ANYWHERE and being impatient I just did it myself. I have since ordered one but goodness.
Oh they all look so pretty!
Setting it all up, When I took these pictures I had not yet updated the calenders and stuff. I will share that next week!
This is what I was talking about earlier, I trimmed down the original calenders in the planner and placed them on the backside of the inserts before I laminated them. {basically just cut off the hole part so you could still see the polkadots on the backside.}
The different washi tapes each month I LOVE. This is my MOST favorite tape!
Backside of that collage photo.
Backside of the whole year calender. I LOVE quotes..
Just a picture of it laying flat. Each month starts off like this, then the two page calender spread followed by the weeks.
I then made divers to size using my silhouette. I just had to re-size them a bit {6.5 x8}. I have HOME,WHIMSY,BLOG and STUFF. I used my dymo label maker before I laminated them but it squished it through the laminator so the white came off of the word. I can still see what it says though so I am ok with that.
So the home tab is for our bills and weight loss tracker. I added in a few sheets of plain paper just to jot notes on.
Next is whimsy, Just a spot to keep track of my whimsy weekends and the friends coming to them. I liked this printable because it had 3 rows {fri, sat, sun} and a box to check if they have paid or not. I will also add some sheets of plain paper { i buy at the papersource} for jotting notes down.
Next is my blog, I am hoping to really work on stats for the whimsy blog. I still need to learn how to do that and add a pinterest button but all in time.. :) Then the last tab is just stuff. Nothing there yet but I might put a pocket there to hold receipts and "stuff" .
Going backwards this is my today divider I made using the we r memory keepers transparency. I can move it in and out and also use it as a dashboard.
You can see I still have lots of room to add more stuff. I didn't add in all the "weeks" per month just March and April. I will add those as the months come.
I am pretty proud that I was able to combine these my filofax and binder into this one planner. Now to find a new cute purse/tote to carry it in. :) Oh I should also say I printed all my inserts in grayscale. I love the colors that they come in just for this set up it didn't match and I wanted to be able to customize them. I hope this gives some idea on how to take the memory planner and use it for a daily workable planner. Really you could do that with what the planner comes with I just needed 7 days in my weekly area and this planner only had 6. If you do have a HS memory planner I would love to see what you have done with it. Just leave your link in the comments.. I am going to start doing Planning Fridays. Every Friday will be a planner related blog post. If you have a favorite planner shop or a cute planner set up yourself let me know and I can showcase it on the blog. Also on a side note our ETSY shop is being totally updated this weekend. I will have lot's of new stuff, will let all of you know when it's up and running!
Happy Planning!
Love! I *need* that HS punch! So cute! I just love all her new stuff!
